Using Taguchi for Marketing and Advertising
Advertising is an event. Marketing is a process.
The taguchi method is a tool that is used to optimize a process not the event of the ad. To only isolate the advertisement itself and not pay attention to the other elements that impact the ad is the mistake that I see most committing when attempting to use this method. There is much to know and understand "off the page" to get an ad to work. Using the taguchi method to optimize ad is not as easy as throwing several elements together and hoping that the matrix will "create" a winning ad for you.
To do this well - I am finding requires a bit of study that is beyond what the typical marketeer is willing to do.
At this point, I am looking over a year's worth of data. One of the things that is standing out is that the smallest things make the biggest difference and more importantly segmentation is key. Selling well to a small defined audience will work wonders for your offers to the marketplace. Most think that they are selling to "niche". Understand that there are niches within your niche. If you pay attention to your numbers. The micro-niches will reveal themselves to you.
But to see this you must first had numbers to examine. Using The Taguchi Method for Advertising and Marketing is about paying close attention to what your marketing is responding to....not what you think they should respond to.
